Modern Orthodontics — Appliances and Treatment Methods
How Orthodontics Has Evolved
The first orthodontic appliances extended well beyond the oral cavity and resembled instruments of torture. Fortunately, over the past hundred years the situation has changed dramatically — modern orthodontics uses far more comfortable, painless, and effective methods.
Removable Orthodontic Appliances
Trainers — silicone trays worn for several hours a day to correct minor anomalies. During treatment, the appliances progress from soft to firmer versions.
Plates — constructions of plastic and metal elements for correcting minor bite deviations. Affordable and typically prescribed for children.
Aligners — thin transparent trays for correcting jaw defects, including complex clinical cases. Also suitable for consolidating results after braces. Main advantage: invisible and significantly reduce treatment time.
Fixed Orthodontic Appliances
Braces — special constructions for correcting malocclusion, crowding, wide interdental spaces and other pathologies. Available in metal, ceramic or sapphire; fixed to the front or inner surface of the teeth.
Retainers — an arch for consolidating results, fixed to the inner surface of teeth. The patient does not feel it and it does not require component replacement at the doctor.
At Orto Clinic Chisinau, we select the most suitable appliance together with the patient, based on diagnosis, preferences and budget.
